General Fusion signs Italian deployment agreement and reports LM26 heating progress
General Fusion has signed a framework agreement with Renexia, a renewable energy company that is part of Italy's Toto Group, to collaborate on the commercial deployment of its Magnetized Target Fusion (MTF) technology in Italy. The milestone-based agreement covers potential siting, development, funding, construction and commissioning of one or more fusion power plants, with the first phase focused on site evaluation and selection. Separately, General Fusion has released a paper describing compressional plasma heating results from its Lawson Machine 26 (LM26), including about 8.4m degrees Celsius, or 0.72 kilo electron volts (keV), electron temperature during plasma compression using a lithium liner.
UK-Japan fusion collaboration explores domestic UK high temperature superconductor production
Tokamak Energy and Japan's Furukawa Electric have announced a new phase of collaboration to explore how high temperature superconducting (HTS) tape capability could be developed in the UK. The companies will begin work on HTS tape research and manufacturing feasibility studies, supporting future demand from programmes including STEP and wider fusion industry growth.
Alongside this announcement, the UK Atomic Energy Authority (UKAEA) and Japan's National Institutes for Quantum Science and Technology (QST) signed a Memorandum of Cooperation to deepen collaboration across fusion research, engineering, skills development and commercial deployment. Areas of cooperation include breeding blanket systems, tritium technologies, robotics, regulation and fusion power plant engineering.
Commonwealth Fusion Systems publishes five peer-reviewed papers validating ARC power plant physics
Commonwealth Fusion Systems (CFS) has published five peer-reviewed papers in a special issue of the Journal of Plasma Physics examining the physics basis of its ARC power plant. The studies build on lessons from the design and construction of SPARC and assess key areas including plasma performance, disruptions, magnetohydrodynamics and heat exhaust.
The analysis concludes that ARC could continuously deliver 400 MW of net electricity using established physics and advanced modelling tools. The work was carried out by 58 scientists from a variety of institutions around the world, including MIT and the Max Planck Institute for Plasma Physics.

Recovering Spent Nuclear Fuel Materials: Where The Value Really Is
This was our industry analysis “Graph of the Month” piece this time.
Every month, our industry experts at Fusion Advisory Services pick an interesting graph from the work that has been going on at FAS—something that gives some insight into significant trends, commercialisation considerations or fusion industry development.

This month, we analysed a selection of the recoverable materials found in spent nuclear fission fuel, on a $/kg basis to see which materials are the most strategically valuable.
This analysis ranks the materials by commercial and strategic viability, not just the headline price. Therefore, this ranking enables us to truly see the comparative value in the materials within spent fuel.
